Referrals is a system created by the Health Insurance Companies to control the flow and expenses in Specialist Care. We spend many hours helping in your care, however, you must follow the following tips if you are seen by a specialist.

  1. Let us know at least 7 days before your appointment regarding your request for a referral.
  2. Referrals have an expiration date (up to 3 months). You need to see your provider if you need more time or referrals or you change to a different specialist.
  3. If you are seen by a specialist on a yearly basis, you must see your provider in this office every 4-6 months to evaluate the progress of your condition. You also need to ask your doctor to renew your referral every 4-6 months.
  4. If you change specialists or place to send the referral, you must let us know 7 days before your appointment.
  5. If you need a referral and you haven’t seen your provider, this office will not send a referral unless you make an appointment with us first. We must document in your records the reason of the referral, otherwise you insurance will deny it.
  6. Some insurances do not require referrals for specialist visits. Some examples are United Health Care, Medicare, or any PPO insurance.
